I offer in-person and virtual language arts tutoring and classes for 4th-12th grade. 4th-9th grade classes are based on the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) method and include grammar, literature, poetry, and Greek and Latin roots. 9th-12th grade classes include literary analysis, essay writing, research papers, logic, rhetoric, grammar, and poetry. Classes are offered on a three-year rotation: World Literature, American Literature, and British Literature.
Language Arts classes are $170/month. Classes are 1 hour 45 minutes once a week. One-on-one tutoring is $86/hour.
Words are powerful, life-giving, and fascinating. I encourage younger students to play with words and older ones to wield the proverbial pen. I give of my best, expect the best in return, and infuse classes with humor and joy.
Mrs. Wilson is easily the best literature teacher I have ever had. My personal growth as a writer has been immense over the past few years in her class. It is definitely not an easy class, but the material is often interesting and engaging, as is class time. I would (and have) certainly recommend taking her class.
All four of my children took Chun Mei's language arts classes from grades 5-8. Chun Mei taught my children how to write beautifully, expanded their vocabulary, and exposed them to wonderful literature. The homework was always helpful and never busy work. The reading pace was also reasonable for my children to keep up. Each of my children gained a solid writing foundation from Chun Mei and they were well prepared for high school courses and beyond. Chun Mei has high expectations for her students and her classes are best for students who are willing to learn and behave respectfully in class.
Chun Mei Wilson offers comprehensive English classes for several grade levels that expose students to fascinating books, literature, poetry, grammar, phonics and writing in a small group environment. Her classes allow the student to explore literature from different cultures in her World Literature class and British Literature class. Her book choices are interesting, her lesson plans are well thought out and organized and her teaching style is engaging, interactive and enthusiastic, which causes the students to be more interested and proactive in their learning.
