Piano lessons: I teach classical and contemporary styles, worship music, technique, theory, sight-reading, improvisation, and playing by ear.
Students may enroll in the annual performance and theory evaluations offered by Music Teachers’ Association of California or Music Teachers
National Association. Students also have the opportunity to participate in solo recitals, ensemble performances, improvisation workshops,
and competitions.
Teaching approach: Lessons are a joyful time as well as an endeavor in musical growth. It is my desire that through their lessons and practice,
students will develop discipline and artistic discernment. As a teacher of 40 years and a Certificate of Music evaluator assessing up to 300
students per year, I work with each student according to ability and availability.
I am a member of Music Teachers’ Association of California, Music Teachers National Association, Contra Costa Performing Arts Society.
Some of my students have gone on to win competitions, present workshops, and receive advanced degrees in music.
We could not recommend Mrs. Wilson more highly. She has been mentoring our son for nearly four years. She has been highly effective in motivating and challenging him, and she has also inspired him to explore his unique creative interests in piano. She communicates effectively with both students and parents, and has truly helped our son grow from a novice to a skilled pianist. Mrs. Wilson is kind, direct, forceful, creative, and caring, and we are so grateful for her!
I had a wonderful experience taking piano lessons with Mrs. Wilson over the last four years. She is extremely knowledgeable and her teaching style is engaging and very thorough. Under her mentorship, I have improved both technically and artistically, and I have her to thank for my increased understanding of and appreciation for music.
I was with four piano teachers before I met Mrs. Wilson. The chemistry with those teachers didn’t work out and I couldn’t last a month with them. What made Mrs. Wilson different from the others was that she understands your strengths and focuses on areas of improvement. She doesn’t just teach you to play pieces; she also teaches you fundamental skills and exercises so that you can become a well-rounded musician. By the end of one year, I was able to pass level 6 Certificate of Merit with almost a perfect score! If you are a motivated person who is willing to put in the work, this teacher can help you reach the stars!!!
