I am available for vocal coaching for student, pre-professional, and professional singers who are currently studying with a voice teacher. Sessions typically focus on diction (including Italian, French, German, and Latin), period style, musical interpretation, and stage presence. I also provide accompaniment recordings for practice as well as for competitions and performances. Many Bay Area voice teachers confidently refer their students to me prior to a performance or competition. Singers whom I have coached have graced stages across the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Chun Mei Wilson has appeared in concerts for Festival Opera, Livermore Valley Opera, Solo Opera, North Bay Opera, and Martinez Opera. She is a favorite artist at Rossmoor in Walnut Creek. Additionally, she has been rehearsal pianist and supertitle projectionist for many opera productions.
Annually Chun Mei accompanies in recitals, auditions, and competitions for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and Contra Costa Performing Arts Society (CCPAS). In the wintertime, she performs with the Bracebridge Singers at the historic Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park. Chun Mei is one of the founders of Singers’ Performance Forum, which meets monthly and is a friendly place for singers, songwriters, and translators to try out repertoire as well as network with others. Chun Mei is the lecturer for Livermore Valley Opera’s pre-opera talks.
Chun Mei apprenticed as a prompter at San Francisco Opera. She had the privilege of coaching the world-renowned Frederica Von Stade from 1997 until the mezzo’s Carnegie Hall farewell recital in 2010. Her music directing experience includes productions of The Fantasticks and Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Chun Mei’s alma maters include New England Conservatory in Boston and UC Berkeley.
I have known Ms. Wilson for many, many years now and love sending my voice students to work with her. I can't think of any other pianist who is as kind, skillful and knowledgeable as Chun Mei. Her sight reading is enviable and she is well versed in just about any genre of music. She is always my first choice as accompanist and coach and we are very lucky to have her in the East Bay.
I am an operatic comedienne. In other words, I sing funny. Chun Mei Wilson is the perfect foil for all my antics. She brilliantly plays along whether I’m prancing around with udders, tentacles, a spear, dying a slow operatic death full of absurd cadenzas, sustaining a high note while falling off the stage, or quavering “The Queen of the Night” or “I’m Proud to Be a Cow.” Singing with her is like riding around in a finely tuned Porsche. I know I can count on her to keep up with my rapid twists and turns and make me look better than I am by association.
Chun Mei Wilson has been my studio accompanist for 20 years in recitals and classes. I need a pianist who can play multiple styles from classical and musical theater to pop and jazz. Chun Mei is a rare find in that she can do it all. She is also an incredible sight reader and can take the most complicated Handel accompaniment and play it flawlessly. I have also referred students to her for musical coaching and learning repertoire. Chun Mei is very easy to work with and really supports the singer. My students love coaching and performing with her.
